It’s no secret that FTH is a large and involved group. We have 17 projects spanning several different magazines including:
- Young Champion RETSU (Seishun Pop)
- Comic Alive (Kampfer, Machine Doll, Aria, Dragonar, MM!)
- Comic Valkyrie (Freezing, Koimoku, Gaiakitan, Enma no Hanayome, Necrophile)
- Young Animal AIRANTOU (Nagihara Sora)
- Nakayoshi (Watashi ni XX Shinasai)
- Gan Gan JOKER (Sengoku Strays)
- Dengeki DAIOH (Belief & Sex)
- Sunday GX (REC)
To do all these manga, we require lots of helping hands. We have to have people who can translate the pages, often with no form of aid in the writing. We have to have people who can correct poor English choices in the translations. We have to have people who can redraw art blocked by text. We have to have people who can remove the dust that gets in the scans. We have to have people who can place the text on the page and appropriately capture the essence of the original material. This is no small task! This is why the process for these scanlations can take upwards of a week at a time when the group is not all focused on a single project. To make the process faster, we need to help each other! For you, the reader, to get more manga, we need more help!
Why Should I Apply to FTH-Scans Instead of Group XYZ?
Well, FTH-Scans is a well established, sound, and stable scanlation group. We know what we’re doing and how we’re doing it. Not a whole lot has changed here since we were founded in 2010, and that’s a good thing because it’s a proven working system producing a excellent product! FTH-Scans prides itself upon:
- Strong, coordinated leadership that keeps projects running smoothly.
- Having a loosely defined schedule with freedom to take breaks as necessary.
- Working collaboratively to accomplish difficult tasks. There’s always help available!
- Ensuring high quality scanlation from top-to-bottom. No public raws here!
- Multiple big-name titles from mainstream manga magazines.
- A multi-national team that is social and active 24 hours a day.
- Active partnerships with many quality groups such as Soba Scans, Futari wa Pretty Anon, FoOlRulez, and XLG
That just scratches the surface of why FTH-Scans is so good. It takes being a part of the best to really experience it! By joining FTH-Scans you’ll have a badge of pride to wear by being part of an exclusive group of high quality, no nonsense scanlators!
What Can I Do To Help?
Well, its simple really. The first question is, “Do I have time to set aside for a hobby as extensive as Scanlation?” If yes, then consider the following:
- Do you have substantial knowledge of Japanese and know several hundred kanji without looking them up? Can you use a dictionary effectively and have at least ‘B grade’ High School English or College Level writing proficiency? Apply to be a translator.
- Maybe you’re not so lucky to have been able to take courses in Japanese in school, but were an English ace? Do you have a sharp eye? That’s cool too. Apply to be a Quality Checker!
- You’re artistically inclined? You know your way around Photoshop? (And yes, you MUST have Photoshop) Do you know the fundamentals of design, balance, line, and color? Apply to be an Image Editor!
No matter which path you choose, it’s important to fill out our application form honestly and thoroughly. We screen applications for people who are just looking to get inside the group to read things early. If you’re applying to be a translator, your first task with the group will be scrutinized by the other translators in the group for accuracy. If you’re applying as an Image Editor, then your previous work is used to gauge whether or not we need to teach you things. For Quality Checkers, how you complete the application is crucial. Credentials are important. If your application is written poorly and in broken English, you can guarantee you won’t get a test from us. Probably the most important thing to remember about the process to join FTH-Scans is that you’re asking us to take time to look at your application and perhaps even teach you a few things, so make it worth our while to read your application!
Where Do We Need Help?
All members are expected to contribute at their best possible capacity. Applicants may not immediately get to work on their preferred projects at first. After an applicant completes a trial project, that applicant may use his/her preference to work on other projects. All members are expected to contribute on projects where they are needed and not to overcrowd a particular project. With that in mind, the projects needing the most attention currently are: Enma no Hanayome, Gaiakitan, Seikoku no Dragonar, REC, Kampfer. If any of these series sparks your interest, you may want to consider helping out! We’re pretty much always in need of Image Editors. Translators are always welcome. Quality Checkers have the strictest requirements to enter the group as they are in charge of the quality of our bottom line, so recruitment is tight. We usually need no more than 5 Quality Checkers in the group at any time.
